The Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum at Historic Palmer Memorial Institute honors the life and contributions of this great educator. Originally an African American agricultural and manual training facility, Palmer Memorial Institute quickly evolved into a fully accredited preparatory school thanks to Dr. Charlotte Hawkins Brown in 1902. North Carolina’s only official historic site honoring both an African-American and a woman, the museum’s exhibits highlight education, social history and African-Americans' contributions to education in North Carolina. The museum and former institute are located between Greensboro and Burlington just west of Stoney Creek Golf Course.
